Your Home Is The Answer ... What Is The Question?

When the time is right to move from your current home, and you’ve read our “sellers’ checklist”, you may be asking yourself why our 1st point is to list 5 great things about your house that only you would know based upon your experience of living there. 

When we ask Buyers what they’re criteria is for their new home, they will often provide a list of physical attributes the property must have, such as 4 bedrooms, a garden, double garage etc, but it’s not until we ask why they want to move, do we discover to true criteria they are searching for. They most likely have a list of factors they feel are negative about their current home and are looking to transform those in to positives by moving. For example, it may be that they feel the location is too noisy, or there are no amenities on hand. Perhaps they enjoy cycling or walks in the park, but they must travel across town to get to this. Maybe it’s that they wish for their children to be able to walk to school, rather than go by car or bus and their current home is too far away? 

Home buyers have a problem that you can solve. You simply need to know how to sell them the solution. The Chief Executive of Black & Decker once said: “People don’t go into a DIY store because they need one of our drills.  They go in because they need a hole in the wall.”  You buy a Black & Decker drill because it solves your problem. 

So, what is it that your house really offers a buyer? Of course, your agent will probably list the room sizes, and the fact that the house has central heating, or that there is a telephone point in a particular place in a particular room, but these things don’t sell the lifestyle that your home can afford to its next occupant. Admittedly, it’s sometimes difficult for some agents to list the uniqueness of your home, however tailored copywriting aligned with professional lifestyle photography can go a long way to showcasing every positive aspect that your home offers.
