Top Six Winter selling tips

Winter may not strike you as the best time of year to sell your home. Don’t let the darker, colder winter nights put you off. Winter is a magical time of year and there are many ways you can draw on the season help sell your home. The darker, colder weather can be used to your advantage and one of the best ways to do this is by paying careful attention to how you present your home.

Here are our top six tips to help you embrace the chillier months and make the time of year work for you and your home sale.

1. Hygge
You can thank the Danes for the Hygge trend. Hygge is all things cosy and warm. From the soft glow of candlelight, to cosying up in from of a fire with a good book, to enjoying a few glasses of wine at home with friends. All of these leave you feeling warm and snug on the inside and out – and that’s what it’s about. It’s no surprise that this Danish way of living ensures that the Danes are some of the happiest people around.

Injecting a bit of the Hygge lifestyle into your own home will ensure that your viewers will want to stay. Show how your home is all things hygge, embrace the concept and allow your buyers to see how they can enjoy this way of life too. Who could resist!

2. Make your home irresistibly cosy
Winter is a dark, cold time of year. Make your home irresistibly cosy to your buyers so they’ll never want to leave. Use fabrics and textures to add a warm and welcoming appeal to your home. Use cushions, throws and fabrics to make beds and sofas look as snuggly as possible. Warm textures such as wool and faux fur are great for this. Layer fabrics to pump up the cosy factor even more.

3. Clever use of lighting
With darker days in winter, it is important that your home is well lit for your buyers to truly appreciate its size and space. Avoid overhead lighting – this can be a bit too harsh. Soft lighting is best. Lamps, candles, fires and fairy lights are a wonderful way to light up your home in a gentle and welcoming way.

4. Celebrate the season
Using seasonal colours and themes indoors. Smells such as apple, cinnamon, pine and spice can subtly bring the outdoors inside and help create a warming atmosphere. The trick to reflecting Hygge is to tantalise the senses and smell plays a big factor in this.

5. Don’t forget outside
It maybe dark and cold out but you can still show how your garden can be used all year round. Wanting to create the same cosy feel as you did indoors, soft outdoor lighting is the perfect way to do this. Dot jars with candles around and put up some outdoor fairy lights. Dress your seating area with blankets and cushions and light your fire pit. If you have a summer house, cosy it up with throws and soft lighting. Show how it can be used all year round. Don’t forget the front of your home too, make sure your front door is softly lit up with a gentle outdoor light.

6. Welcome your viewers
What better way to make your viewers and your guests welcome than offering them a tasty, seasonal treat. Perhaps a mince pie or warming mug of mulled wine. There is no better way to celebrate the season and make your viewers feel at home.

So, you see, there are lots of ways to take advantage of the winter climate and embrace the seasonal senses to help sell you home. Help your viewers fall in love with your home.
